Which beethoven sonata would be good to use for a conservatory audition?
I am auditioning for colleges at the beginning of next year and I'm playing op. 7 no. 3 in D major. The second movement is absolutely beautiful, one of my favorite things Beethoven wrote. Like the first comment said, don't pick one with a name, like the Pathetique. Although the Tempest (Op. 31 no. 2) has a nickname, that is a great sonata and not played as often as some of the others. The 3rd sonata (Op. 2 No. 3) in C major is also very nice. And don't do op. 49, those are too simple and overplayed. Don't attempt anything that is too technically difficult unless you are absolutely sure you can play it well. If you play an easier sonata very clean and musically, they will be much more impressed than if you were to fudge through a harder sonata. Good luck!
